Embracing Cultures Project

If you have never visited the "Free the Children" website, I hope you will enjoy this opportunity to do so! I have visited it often, but in browsing through it again this evening I found a link to a special project that I haven't noticed before and that I thought you would enjoy seeing. It features a special project entitled 'Embracing Cultures'. The following description of the project is from the website:

Free The Children launched the Embracing Cultures Tour and Project in September 2002. This initiative is designed to inspire, motivate and challenge young people in middle schools and high schools across North America to welcome and “embrace” cultural differences and become peace builders.

We have talked about these issues in our classes and have discussed how we can demonstrate these positive qualities in our lives. Please have a look at this site and share on the blog your favorite ideas, suggestions they make, things that you plan to try, etc.
Here is the site:

I have also made a link to the right.

I look forward to hearing your comments!

It is quite late right now, so I did not get to quite explore the site as much as I wanted, but from what I saw and investigated for like a few minutes, I think that this is a magnificently gorgeous site! There are alot of things which I could say about it. It makes you more familliar with your own personality for example. One of the things that I loved however was that it doesn't just simply tell you about an existing problem, it gives great tips on how to fix them! When my homework lessens I also want to explore Taking It Global more, because it has the same qualities as well. Gotta go.

I looked at the youth part where people share stories, and though there was only 1, it was very effective. The
girl wrote that she tried to make a differene, and I think she probably did. What was really sad that she said was that at 9/11 a teacher came into their classroom and asked whose parents worked near the world trade center, and a boys dad worked right next to it.

tweedle-dee you inspired me to visit the youth part. The story was quite touching and I agree that she had lots of courage and made a difference. I really have to visit the site again, like right now!

WOW!!! I read the part where it tells you how to make a difference within a second, minute, hour, day and year! It was amazing advice! I really want to try it out at school, I just hope no one would tell me to get a life, but who cares!! If everyone cared and were concerned about what people think of their opinions and actions, the world would really be messed up!! I want to find the courage to express my opinion more freely and to make others feel better about themselves too. It's not that hard!

That is an amazing website!!!!
I especially enjoyed the youth part where other kids can share their stories online. The other part about the One second to one lifetime really inspired me to do what I SHOULD do not whats COOL to do.(like ignore the class "foriener") Also like Sapphire said I think that if everybody could do maybe 1 or 2 of the ideas posted each day the world would become a better place.

Wow, the site is amazing. It's great that more and more people/organizations are starting to focus on positive things like volunteering and equality. Also, it's not a website that contributes to turning our brains to jelly! This is definitely a site I will check out on daily basis. It's a great source for info, I learned so much! I'm really interested in the 10 Challenges part. Wouldn't that be cool if we could do that in our own schools? Better yet, wouldn't that be a great project for McQuarrie students to take on next year? After all, we can do anything we put our mind to! One last thought, the poem in the "But Wor4ds Can Never Hurt Me" section is really powerful. Next year, not only should we have a time to listen to inspirational music, but poems too!

Hi! I'm back! I visited the website again and took the quiz! I gained soooo much new info! Anyways, after vsiting the website I keep wanting to make a difference, but then people either ignore me, or stop me. I'm gonna try my luck again though! Of coarse I have had some success! Others are trying too. Like a girl in my class who has no idea about enrichment and has never been here, and is one of the most poular tried talking to me and another unpopular girl whomis my friend! Unbeleivable! She was commenting on the oragami that my friend had made!

This is exciting news! I too have brought up questions when controversial issues were brought up. It's really interesting to see that people try to avoid these kinds of questions because they know it's wrong and don't want to admit it!

Speaking of making a difference, Just the week of May 31st (Last McQuarrie day :( ), out of the blue, my treacher copied a Rick Reilly arcticle out of a recent Sports Illustrated about fundraising for bug nets in Africa. These nets will prevent insects, like Mosquitos from infeting the poor civilization in rural areas from dying from harmful diseases, such as Malarea, (I believe.) One only costs $0.25, and buy giving a dollar you can save four lives! So, we're doing fundraising for a good cause- just like we did at Wednesday's area class. I think I must get the best of both worlds!

Well, as you can see, There's so many good things now starting up! And all this good news befells straight before my 14th birthday, being today, June the 05! Funny how that works....

Rocking On,

Postman Craig
